Dating Margiela
Dating Margiela items is actually quite easy once you know how to do it. The different periods require looking for different things.
1988-1993
Most items are printed with "COLLECTION PRINTEMPS ETE" or "COLLECTION AUTOMNE HIVER" and the date on the 4 stitch white label.
1992-2001
Items from this period have often lost their wash tags which makes dating them extremely hard.
These items are actually very hard to date even with a wash tag, the easiest way is to find an image of one in a lookbook and use that as a reference.
Miss Deanna Produced Knitwear
Items from this period have often lost their wash tags which makes dating them extremely hard.
These items are actually very hard to date even with a wash tag, the easiest way is to find an image of one in a lookbook and use that as a reference.
Labels that have the Martin Margiela Text are from 2000 or 2001, other labels are from older seasons
2001-2009
Look for the line that starts with COMM. on the wash label, at the end of that line there is a number.
Here the number 0052 means 2005 and 2 means Autumn Winter.
So 0042 means 2004 and 2 means Autumn Winter.
If the number ends with a 1, it means Spring Summer.
2010-Today
The year and season is written on the wash label at the end of a line (see photos). If the number after the year is 01, it means Spring Summer, if it's 02 it's Autumn Winter.
