Evolution of Margiela's line 6

Margiela's 'Line 6' ininially stated in October 1997 as a part of the 0 to 23 label. At it's core Line 6 is a more affordable line in contrast with line 1, the mainline collection, and line 4, the more luxurious line (and line 0, the hand-made artisanal collection). Some of the concepts explored during the early years were the use of different material weights with the same garment patterns, exploring different lengths for one type of garment and the reinterpretations of classic shapes.

Transitioning away from the signature 4 stitches, Margiela's Line 6 was rebranded as MM6, in June 2004, with the labels stitched on a straight line across the top.

In approximately 2009, at the same time Maison Martin Margiela's name changed to Maison Margiela and Martin left the brand, MM6's logo was refreshed with a bolder logo, distancing it further from the other lines and marking a slight drop in quality. The brand became a fully blown diffusion line after this point, focussing more on logo based designs and recycling ideas from Margiela's previous collections.
