IN 1945, CÉLINE VIPIANA AND HER HUSBAND RICHARD CREATED HER EPONYMOUS BRAND ORIGINALLY AS A CHILDREN’S SHOE BUSINESS OPENING THREE BOUTIQUES IN PARIS IN 1948. IT WAS SO SUCCESSFUL THAT IN THE SIXTIES, SHE EXPANDED TO ADULT FOOTWEAR AND ACCESSORIES, FOLLOWED IN 1968, WITH A READY-TO-WEAR WOMEN’S SPORTSWEAR COLLECTION. THE BRAND BEGAN TO SYMBOLIZE PARISIAN CHIC, AND THE COMPANY EXPANDED, OPENING DISTRIBUTION IN JAPAN, MAKING THEM THE FIRST LUXURY BRAND TO DO SO.

IN 1987 BERNARD ARNAULT TOOK OVER THE COMPANY AND SET ABOUT TO REVIVE THE BUSINESS WITH IT BEING MANAGED UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF THE GROUP LVMH SINCE 1996. VIPIANA HANDED OVER THE REINS TO MICHAEL KORS IN 1997, WHO BECAME THEIR FIRST-EVER CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND WOMEN’S READY-TO-WEAR DESIGNER. DURING HIS TIME AT CÉLINE, KORS’S SUCCESSFUL READY-TO-WEAR LINES AND ACCESSORIES COLLECTIONS MANAGED TO TURN THE FASHION HOUSE AROUND. HE LEFT CÉLINE IN 2003, AND PHOEBE PHILO WAS APPOINTED NEW CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND UNVEILED HER FIRST COLLECTION DURING THE SPRING-SUMMER 2010 PRESENTATIONS. FINDING A SUBTLE BALANCE BETWEEN PURE MINIMALISM AND UNADORNED SOPHISTICATION, THE COLLECTIONS BY PHOEBE PHILO WERE AN EXPRESSION OF CONTEMPORARY LUXURY BLENDING FEMININE AND MASCULINE ELEMENTS.

TODAY THE SPIRIT OF QUALITY, PARISIAN CHIC, AND SAVOIR-FAIRE IS CONTINUED WITH THE APPOINTMENT OF HEDI SLIMANE AS HEAD OF CELINE IN 2018. HEDI SLIMANE'S RESOLUTELY MORE ROCK AND JUVENILE TAILORING HAS RESULTED IN A SUDDEN CHANGE IN STYLE. HE IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR CHANGING THE LOGO AND REMOVING THE ACCENT ON CELINE. SLIMANE IS RENOWNED FOR COMPLETELY REVISING THE HOUSES HE WORKS FOR, WHICH IS LIKEWISE THE CASE WITH CELINE, WORKING ON CREATING A STRONG IMAGE, ENSURING THAT THE DESIGN, AS WELL AS THE MARKETING, ADVERTISING, AND VISUAL MERCHANDISING OF THE SHOPS ALL WORK IN HARMONY.

THE BRAND ANNOUNCED THE CREATION OF A LINE DEDICATED TO MEN IN 2018 AND IS LAUNCHING NEW FRAGRANCES WITHIN THE HOUSE'S HAUTE PARFUMERIE COLLECTION.
